Psychiatrists are asking about psychedelic medicine. This meeting provides a timely update to attendees and establishes the framework for future discussions with patients. The meeting will focus on filling in background knowledge, ie the state of the science, and on the ethical and clinical conundrums brought forth by the entrance of psychedelics into the mainstream.
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and Washington State Psychiatric Association. The APA is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The APA designates this live activity for a maximum of 3.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit ™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Learning Objectives
1) Examine the potential of psychedelic medicine to be an advance in our ability to help patients across diagnoses.
2) Distinguish the use of psychedelic compounds as psychotherapy adjunts and the use of these compounds as the primary treatment (ie medication).
3) Counsel patients re: potential promise of scientific breakthroughs vs the pitfalls of looking for a panacea.
4) Develop strategies for keeping up with advances while not becoming overwhelmed by hype.
